The Abutilon

abutilon.jpg

The plant seemed dead.
One leaf, barely alive.
The wintering-over effort a failure.
Probably it was laziness,
Maybe hope.
But, I left it in the pot.
Now, what appeared dead
Is returning to life.
Light, water, and good intentions
Brought out new leaves
From the “dead” branches.
It often feels that way:
Nothing left. No hope for growth.
Then the miracle happens in its own time
