Shame

Shame
Buried deeply in my heart.
Hiding the light
Masquerading as depression.
They look the same from the outside.
And I act the same:
Shut down,
Unable to adequately function.
All I see is the darkness.
Frozen in place.
Lost in myself.
Lost to myself.
Its companion is anxiety,
Whose antidote is faith.*
Faith that being myself
Is a blessing to be shared.

*I got the concept of faith being the antidote to anxiety from a sermon by Marcus Borg.
